ABOUT US

Our Mission

Our mission is to spread the importance of leadership among the teenagers and provide a supportive and positive learning platform for them to develop International standard communication and leadership skills.

Our Vision

To produce inspiring teen-leaders who can speak with passion and power, and lead with purpose and love.

Who Are We?

Future Stars is a gavel club for Toastmasters International, a world wide network of clubs teaching  adults around the world the art of public speaking. However, Future Stars targets youth in teaching them communication and leadership skills they will need in their future. The members attending are ages mostly 14-17.  Future Stars is proudly for the youth and run by the youth, with guidance from coaches. The club collects nominal annual fee for books, speech material, speech contests and other club expenses. The club coaches are dedicated community servants and experts in public speaking and communication.

Our Story

Our club had humble beginnings in August 2015. Thanks to our skilled, trained, and experienced Coach Tahseen who moved from Portland, Oregon and dedicated members, we reached unbelievable heights in less than a year. With Edward Beekman, a highly qualified and experienced coach joining our team, our club has reached further heights since 2017. Every week we have visiting expert guest speakers and workshops to improve and develop our communication and leadership skills. We look forward to expanding our club's activities and continue succeeding further in the coming years.

What We Do

In every meeting, we have a prepared agenda,  guest speakers and/or workshops, and  club member speeches.
Run like a toastmasters meeting, members of the club are assigned roles that they must carry out. The roles are:
  • Toastmaster: Prepares agenda, and introduces participating members
  • Grammarian: Chooses "word of the day," to increase vocabulary. Also counts "ums," "uhs," and other filler words.
  • Timer: make sure the meeting proceeds on time, and alerts speakers when their time is running out.
  • Speakers: prepare and deliver speeches, using manual. Each speech in the manual teaches a new skill (ex. vocal variety, using props, effective gestures, etc.).
  • Evaluators: provide the speakers with constructive feedback.
  • General Evaluator: Evaluates overall meeting and provides feedback for evaluators.
  • Table Topics Evaluator: Evaluates table topics speakers and provides feedback.
In addition, we have club contests and participate in district/state level Toastmaster competitions.

Treasurer: Batoul Hussein

My name is Faris Kazi and I am a junior at North Hills Preparatory School and I like to spend time with my friends and family, I love basketball, and am very competitive and enjoy new challenges. One of the main reasons that I am in Toastmasters is because I was inspired when I saw Kobe Bryant speak. He was one of my favorite basketball players and he inspired me beyond basketball through his ability to tell stories and engage listeners in his speech. He used these methods to teach listeners about basketball and inspire them in interviews, seminars, and motivational videos. This was very impactful on me and although I probably cannot be as great of a basketball player as he was, he filled me with a desire to be as great of a speaker as he was and inspire hundreds of people.
